About the Authors
We’re two friends who started drinking big fruity tiki drinks and then got further and further into the rum world until we looked at each other one day and said, “Shouldn’t we have a review website?” We love rums of all kinds, but high-ester bombs from origins like Jamaica and Reunion are some of our favorites.
Our noms des rhums are taken from 19th century literary rum lovers Samuel Pickwick (Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers) and Tashtego (Melville’s Moby-Dick). Oh, and it should really go without saying, but these reviews are 100% written by us. AI has not been and will never be involved in any fashion.
About the Ratings
One thing we wanted this site to have was a review system that we found useful. There’s only so useful a numerical scale can be when you’re primarily drinking premium products; there’s also a difference between a great rum and a rum you NEED to own. That’s why we’ve decided to use a two-pronged scoring system: the Taste/Haste Scale. Taste is for how good the rum actually is; Haste is for just how badly you’re going to want a bottle in your possession. (Or at least just how badly we want a bottle in our possession.)
Taste Scale
5: A particularly delicious rum; absolute top quality.
4: Excellent.
3: Very good.
2: Solid dram.
1: Serviceable. Will do in a pinch, but it’s no better than decent.
0: Actually bad. Do not drink this.
Haste Scale
5: Worth paying a premium to obtain; do whatever you need to do to get this bottle.
4: Run, do not walk, to the store. If you have to ship it from out of state, do so.
3: Good value pickup at full price and worth owning.
2: Might be worth a pickup if you can get it on sale.
1: Taste it first, at least.
0: I am begging you not to waste your money.
